NIGERIAN students under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), South West zone (Zone D), has good their threat to block the the nation’s airport if the Federal Government fails to resolve the impasse the it and the non conforming University teachers under the aegis of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The students, today, barricaded the road leading to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, amid the torrential rainfall, protesting against the ongoing strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Though prevented by security operatives from gaining access to the airport, the students in their hundreds took over the road, preventing traffic flow both inward and outward from the airports.

Led by NANS National Taskforce Chairman, Olumide Ojo; Vice President, External Affairs, Akinteye Babatunde; Public Relations Officer, Giwa Yisa Temitope; Zone D Coordinator, Adegboye Emmanuel Olatunji; Deputy Senate President, Ekundina Elvis; Ondo Joint Campus Committee (JCC) Chairman, Omotosho Surprise; Lagos JCC Chairman, Olusesi Tolulope Samson; Ogun JCC Chairman, Kehinde Damilola Simeon and Oyo JCC Chairman, Adeleke Quadri Abidemi, the protesting students demanded an immediate end to the strike which has entered its seventh month, urging the President Muhammadu Buhari led federal government to meet the demands of the striking lecturers to enable them to return to class.

The students were seen singing and dancing on the road, creating gridlock on the busy road.

In what appears to be an attempt to frustrate the protest, NaijaTimes gathered that the students were earlier intimidated by armed police officers but undettered, they ssng and dance to various aluta songs such as ‘Another challenge’, ‘Lowo nbe’,  ‘How people soldier go kill’ and ‘Kosi idariji’ among other songs.

“As you can see, we have taken the gateway to the airport notwithstanding the rain and attempts to stop us by mobilising security operatives. We remain resolute, undettered, untameable and unshakeable with our demand. We will continue to protest until our students resume back to class,” NANS Zone D coordinator, Adegboye told NaijaTimes.
