Sunday Oliseh has been named as one of a group of football experts for the Qatar 2022 World Cup in November and December.
The former Super Eagles midfielder, captain and head coach will work along with some of the brightest minds in world football in assessing matches and drawing up technical reports on the 32-team tournament.
Other members of the technical team include former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, and German legend and 1990 World Cup winner Jurgen Klinsmann, who was a star striker and head coach of his country’s national team.
“Extremely honoured to have been appointed by FIFA as a Technical Expert for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar,” Oliseh wrote on Twitter yesterday.
“In privileged company of “Sir” Arsene Wenger, Jurgen Klinnsman and three others. Work started last night.
Qatar 2022 is looking great and ready.”
Oliseh also worked with the FIFA technical expert group at the Rio 2016 Olympics and has often had roles with the world football governing body.
The 47-year former international was a member of Nigeria’s first team to play at the senior World Cup in 1994.
Oliseh won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994 with the Super Eagles and the men’s football event gold medal at the Atlanta Olympic Games two years later.
He had a brief spell as Super Eagles head coach from 2015 to 2016 and managed Dutch club Fortuna Sittard in the second division, taking them to the brink of the top flight before quitting in 2018.
The 2022 World Cup, for which Nigeria did not qualify, will be held in Qatar from November 20 to December 18.
