The Super Falcons have arrived in Japan for Thursday’s friendly match against the former FIFA Women’s World Cup champions.
The nine-time African champions are already in Kobe, the host city of the high-level friendly billed for the Noevir Stadium.
Japan, who won the Women’s World Cup in Germany in 2011, are currently 11th in the FIFA ranking, 35 places above Nigeria.
It is the fourth meeting between the teams, and the Super Falcons will be hoping to get their first win after three defeats.
Japan won 1-0 at the Athens 2004 Olympics in Greece and claimed two 2-0 victories in friendly matches in 2013.
Both teams are heading to the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand after the Super Falcons squeezed through as semi-finalists at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in July.
The Super Falcons have participated in every FIFA Women’s World Cup edition since the competition began in 1991, reaching the quarter-finals in 1999.
