Rashford leads Man United past West Ham with milestone goal

Marcus Rashford scored his 100th goal for Manchester United tonight to inspire them to a nervous 1-0 win over West Ham United at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old England striker, who has played 318 times for Manchester United, netted with a powerful header in the first half to continue his return to scoring form after his goal against Sheriff Tiraspol in midweek.

Rashford struck seven minutes before the end of a first half Manchester United dominated after Christian Eriksen curled over a superb far-post cross.

The strike made Rashford the 22nd Manchester United player to reach a century of goals.

Cristiano Ronaldo has also scored over 100 Manchester United goals, and he was given a spot in the starting line-up, with Antony missing due to a knock.

The Portuguese superstar however failed to impress, wasting one excellent second-half opportunity after he had been sent through by Rashford.

Manchester United lost control of the match late in the second half and had to rely on their defence to keep a clean sheet and secure victory, with Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot and Lisandro Martinez all kept busy.

In a tense finale to the game, David de Gea made fantastic saves to deny Michail Antonio and Kurt Zouma, before stopping powerful Declan Rice effort in added time.

The result was enough for United to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches and go fifth in the Premier League table, while West Ham fell to 13th, just three points above the relegation zone.
