Brazil had a tough time but they managed to get the result they needed tonight by beating Switzerland 1-0 to qualify for the round of 16 of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The five-time world champions notched up their second win of the tournament with the result and stay on top of Group G with six points.

Midfielder Casemiro showed his underperforming strikers how to finish when he blasted in an unstoppable late shot to give Brazil the victory.

The drab encounter was heading towards a goalless draw when the Manchester United star struck seven minutes from time to take Brazil to the knockout rounds.

The absence of injured forward Neymar contributed to Brazil’s flat performance, with only a disallowed goal by Vinicius Jr the source of excitement for their loud fans before Casemiro’s goal.

The group’s other round of 16 ticket is still very much up for grabs, with Switzerland on three points and Cameroon and Serbia, who drew 3-3 earlier today, having one each.

Cameroon face Brazil on Friday in a must-win clash, while Switzerland could progress with a draw against Serbia on the same day.
