ADEMOLA Lookman made three goal contributions tonight to inspire Atalanta to an 8-2 thrashing of Salernitana in their Serie A clash at the Gewiss Stadium.

The Super Eagles forward scored twice and set up another goal as Atalanta became the first team to score eight goals in a Serie A match since Inter Milan beat Padova by the same score in 1996.

Lookman netted Atalanta’s second goal from the penalty spot in the 20th minute to make the scores 2-1 after a frenetic start.

He scored his second and Atalanta’s sixth in the 54th minute before assisting Ederson for the seventh goal seven minutes later.

The Nigeria international, who lasted 81 minutes, was remarkably the only player with more than one goal in the goalfest.

Lookman has now registered nine goals and three assists in 17 Serie A appearances in his first season with Atalanta.

The 25-year-old is currently the second top scorer in the Italian top flight behind his compatriot Victor Osimhen, who has scored 12 goals for leaders Napoli.

Atalanta are sixth in Serie A, three points behind Inter Milan who occupy the last UEFA Champions League spot, while Salernitana are 16th.
