MANCHESTER City have been declared the world’s richest football club for the second year in a row, according to Deloitte.

The Premier League champions top the 2022 Football Money League, with 10 other English clubs in the top 20.

It is the first time in the study’s 26 years that more than half of the clubs are from the same league.

According to Deloitte’s study, City made €731m (£619.1m) to retain top spot ahead of Real Madrid (€713.8m).

Liverpool climbed up to third spot (€701.6m) from seventh, while Manchester United (fourth with €688.6m ), Chelsea (eighth with €654m) Tottenham Hotspur (ninth with €523m) and Arsenal (10th with €433m) also make the top 10.

West Ham, Leicester City, Leeds United, Everton and Newcastle United are all in the top 20.

Paris Saint-Germain are fifth with €654.2m, followed by Bayern Munich (€653.6m) and Barcelona (€638.2m).

The top 20 clubs made €9.2bn (£7.82bn), a 13% increase from 2020-21.

Deloitte, one of the world’s top financial consulting firms, explained that the increase is largely due to the return of fans to stadia for the first full season after Covid-19 restrictions, with matchday revenue rising from €111m to €1.4bn euros.

Five of the Premier League’s ‘big six’ – Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur – reported revenue increases of 15% or more. That saw a total increase of €226m.

Commercial revenues rose 8%, from €3.5bn to €3.8bn (£2.975bn to £3.23bn) but there was an 11% (€485m/£412.25m) fall in broadcast revenue.

Last season’s figures were higher than usual because of postponed matches from the 2019-20 season being played.
