FLYING Eagles of Nigeria head coach Ladan Bosso has lashed out at his team for their defeat to The Gambia in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Cairo, Egypt last night.

Adama Bojang scored the only goal as the Young Scorpions defeated Bosso’s side 1-0 to reach their first-ever final of the tournament.

The tiny West African country took the lead in the eighth minute and held on against their more illustrious opponents to end Nigeria’s dreams of an eighth African title.

Substitute Ahmed Abdullahi won and missed a penalty in the closing stages of the match which the Flying Eagles dominated.

“We lost stupidly, we were naive from the start,” Bosso said during his post-match press conference.

“We failed to take our chances and we also missed the penalty in the 86th minute.

“I am very frustrated because we had the team to go all the way. Football is cruel.

“We didn’t measure up. I congratulate The Gambia for winning.”

The Gambia joined Senegal in the final of the U-20 AFCON following the Young Teranga Lions’ comfortable 3-0 victory over Tunisia in Ismailia.

The Flying Eagles will face Tunisia on Friday in the third-place match.
