UCL: PSG’s Gatlier disappointed as Bayern’s Nagelsmann, Muller celebrate

PARIS Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier was left disappointed last night as his side crashed out of the UEFA Champions League to Bayern Munich.

The French champions were beaten 2-0 in Munich on the night and 3-0 on aggregate in the round of 16 tie, with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Serge Gnabry scoring last night.

“It’s a big disappointment. We have to deal with it and accept it,” Gatlier said in his post-match interview.

“There’s a lot of disappointment in the dressing room. I don’t know if it’s a lesson to be learned, but there’s a lot of frustration. If we’d scored first it would have been different, but we didn’t.”

PSG defender Danilo shared his manager’s view, ruing the side’s missed chances in a bright first half.

He said: “Unfortunately, Bayern were too strong. We had chances in the first half, we didn’t take them, and in the Champions League, that makes things difficult. It’s tough to go out like this, but that’s the Champions League.”

In contrast, Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann was as expected a happy man after the match, the German noting how his plan worked to perfection.

“In the first game, we didn’t do what we had spoken about before very well. There was too much space,” he explained.

“We defended better in the second half and were dangerous on the ball. In the end, we deserved the win.”

Bayern captain Thomas Muller, who was named man of the match, added: “In a game like that, there are always moments when you need to suffer and create a little luck.

“We were more controlled in our defending in the second half. We played the better game and ultimately deserved to win.”
