Iwobi stalls on new Everton contract amid relegation concerns

ALEX Iwobi is not in a hurry to sign a new contract at Everton as the club fight to survive in the Premier League.

The Nigeria international has been one of the shining lights in a dark campaign for the Toffees, and the club are keen to extend his stay.

Football Insider however claims that the 26-year-old Super Eagles midfielder is holding off on signing a new deal until the club’s future is sorted out.

Everton are currently in 17th place, only out of the relegation places on goal difference, and they have a tough run-in, with Newcastle United, Manchester City, Brighton and Wolves among their remaining eight games.

Iwobi joined Everton from Arsenal for £30m in 2019 and his contract runs out in June next year.

He has remarkably started all of Everton’s 30 Premier League games this season, completing 27 of them and registering one goal and seven assists.
