THE Golden Eaglets secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Zambia in Constantine, Algeria today to begin their quest for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations title.
The Nigerian lads went top of Group B courtesy of a late goal from Favour Daniel.
After creating several chances and failing to score, the Eaglets finally got the breakthrough in the 77th minute.
Daniel pounced on a loose ball in the Zambia box and fired home just as his teammates were appealing for a penalty for handball.
It could have been more for Nduka Ugbade’s side when they were awarded a penalty in added time.
The score remained the same though as substitute Light Eke’s tame spot kick was easily held by the Zambia goalkeeper without even needing to stretch.
The Golden Eaglets, searching for their third African title, will reach the quarter-finals of they beat Morocco in their next Group B contest on Wednesday.
