VICTOR Osimhen has been named the Striker of the Season in Serie A after inspiring Napoli to the Italian top flight title.
He however did not win the overall Most Valuable Player award, the main prize going to his teammate Kvicha Kvaratskhelia.
The Nigeria international won the striker prize ahead of Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao, who were both nominated along with him.
The 24-year-old Super Eagles star is the top scorer in the Serie A this season with 25 goals and his strikes helped Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years.
Osimhen’s teammate at Napoli, Min Jae Kim, was named the Defender of the Season. Fellow Napoli star Giovanni Di Lorenzo and AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez were the other nominees.
Inter Milan’s Nicola Barella won the prize for midfielders ahead of Adrien Rabiot of Juventus and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic of Lazio.
Ivan Provedel, the Lazio shot stopper with the most Serie A clean sheets this season, is the best goalkeeper, beating Bologna’s Michele Di Gregorio and Lukasz Skorupski of Bologna to the prize.
