Gunmen kidnap 17 in Kwara, Ondo

AT least 17 people have been kidnapped in Ondo and Kwara states by unknown gunmen.

The gunmen kidnapped 13 people on the Abuja Road in Isua, Akoko South-East Local Government Area, Ondo State.

According to reports yesterday, the victims were traveling from Lagos to Abuja in an 18-passenger bus when they were ambushed and carried into the forest.

According to reports, the Nigeria Police Force, Amotekun Corps, Army, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) leapt into action promptly and rescued some of the victims.

Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, a state Police Command spokeswoman, revealed that one of the kidnappers was killed when the security men engaged them in a gun battle.

Meanwhile, in Kwara, four people, including a vigilante, were kidnapped in the state’s Asa Local Government.

The event occurred on Tuesday evening in Aboto, as several guests were returning home following a naming ceremony.

“Four captives are still with the kidnappers,” said Hon Aliyu Wahab Opekunle, who represented the district in the 9th Kwara assembly, “and we have not heard from them yet.”
