OSINACHI Ohale has been voted as the official Player of the Match of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup clash between Nigeria and Australia.
The Super Falcons stunned co-hosts Australia 3-2 in an epic Group B encounter in Brisbane today, with Ohale playing a starring role.
The centre-back was not only brilliant in defence against the rampaging Matildas, she scored Nigeria’s second goal, bravely heading home and getting injured in the process.
Uchenna Kanu had pulled Nigeria level in first-half added time before Ohale scored in the 65th minute to give Randy Waldrum’s side the lead.
Ohale, 31, is attending her fourth Women’s World Cup after making her debut at the global tournament in 2011 and plays for Alaves in Spain.
Meanwhile, another goal scorer today, Asisat Oshoala, has promised that she ‘will give everything’ for her team to succeed at the World Cup.
“At this tournament I want to make sure I give everything, fight for my teammates and fight for this badge. This is the best country in the world,” the Barcelona striker said during a television interview moments after the match.
Oshoala, 28, shook off a knock and came off the bench to net Nigeria’s third goal in the 72nd minute, becoming the first Super Falcons player to score at three different Women’s World Cups, having netted in the 2015 and 2019 editions.
The Super Falcons currently top Group B with four points, ahead of second-placed Canada on goals scored, and will advance to the round of 16 with a draw against Ireland on Monday.
