Round-up: Gift Orban grabs hat-trick in Gent rout as Iheanacho, Ndidi, Dessers score

NIGERIAN youngster Gift Orban carried on his remarkable scoring run from last season tonight, firing a hat-trick as Gent thrashed Pogon Szczecin, while his compatriots Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi and Cyriel Dessers were also on target in other games.

Orban struck in the 13th, 25th and 54th minutes as Gent won the UEFA Europa Conference League third qualifying round first leg clash 5-0 in Belgium.

The 21-year-old, who scored 20 goals in 22 appearances for Gent last season after he joined them in January, has now netted five goals in his first three matches this new season.

In England, Iheanacho and Ndidi starred for Leicester City as they defeated their hosts Burton Albion in their Carabao Cup first round clash tonight.

The Super Eagles stars scored one each, while Iheanacho added an assist and was voted man of the match.

Iheanacho got the Foxes on their way in the sixth minute when he struck home from close range off Mark Albrighton’s pass for his first goal of the season.

Ndidi made it 2-0 in first-half added time, firing home after Iheanacho dribbled into the Burton Albion box and squared the ball to him.

Both Iheanacho and Ndidi were withdawn in the second half as Leicester City eased to victory, the former lasting 76 minutes, the latter 57.

Leicester City will be away again for the second round, when they travel to Tranmere Rovers in the week starting on August 28.

Today’s victory was Leicester City’s second of the season, three days after they opened their Championship campaign with a 2-1 home win over Coventry City.

In the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round, Super Eagles striker Dessers opened his Rangers account tonight in their 2-1 first leg win over Servette in Glasgow.

Dessers, who endured a nightmare debut for Rangers last Saturday as they were stunned by Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership, netted the second goal in the 15th minute tonight before Servette pulled one back to make the second leg a potentially tight affair.
