CHELSEA and Liverpool played out yet another draw today in their English Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge, this time 1-1 after a series of goalless stalemates.
The entertaining encounter was the seventh time in succession that the sides have failed to beat each other in all competitions in a remarkable sequence of results.
Luiz Diaz opened the scoring for Liverpool but Axel Disasi equalised for the hosts as there were goals in a Chelsea versus Liverpool fixture for the first time in five matches, ending a dry spell of four 0-0 draws.
Liverpool were dominant in the early stages of the game and almost took the lead when Mohamed Salah struck the bar.
The Egypt forward made up for the miss by delivering a brilliant pass for Diaz to poke home the opening goal in the 18th minute.
Chelsea, in their first Premier League game under former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino, fought back and deservedly drew level with an equaliser from new signing Disasi, who scored from point-blank range after Liverpool failed to clear from a set-piece.
Both sides had goals ruled out for offside after video assistant referee (VAR) reviews, with Salah netting Liverpool’s disallowed effort and Ben Chilwell Chelsea’s.
Incidentally, Chelsea and Liverpool were battling over Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo before the Ecuador international settled for the Blues.
Liverpool had agreed a British record £110m deal for Caicedo but the player prefers Chelsea and he is expected to complete a £115m move to the Blues in the coming days.
