NIGERIAN forward Akinkunmi Amoo has expressed his pleasure at completing his switch from Danish club FC Copenhagen to Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus.
The former Golden Eaglets starlet, who starred for Nigeria at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup, officially joined up with his compatriot Francis Uzoho at Omonia today.
Amoo, who had a run-in with the law in Denmark over an assault allegation, signed up with Omonia until 2026.
“We have reached an agreement with FC Copenhagen to sign 21-year-old Nigerian winger, Akinkunmi Amoo,” the Cypriot Cup holders announced on their official website today.
“The cooperation contract is for three years. The footballer started his career at Hammarby IF and a year and a half later he transferred to FC Copenhagen.
“We welcome Akinkumni Amoo.”
The wide forward, who was invited to the Super Eagles in 2022 but is yet to make his senior international debut, said he was happy to join Omonia.
“I’m honoured and excited to join the @OMONOIAfootball family. I’m looking forward to all the success stories we will create together and with the fans,” he posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“I want to thank my family, friends, and the media for their amazing support. It’s time to get back to work and grind.”
Amoo made only four appearances and scored one goal for FC Copenhagen before the switch to Omonia Nicosia, who have been quite successful domestically in the last few seasons, winning the top flight title in 2021 and the Cup in 2022 and 2023.
Omonia are one of the most successful clubs in Cyprus, having won 21 league titles, 16 Cups, and a record 17 Super Cups.
