ACCORDING to reports in Spain, two LaLiga clubs Barcelona and Sevilla are interested in Wilfred Ndidi.
The Nigeria midfielder is currently with Leicester City in the Championship after they got relegated from the English Premier League last season.
Barcelona have reportedly been casting an eye on the holding midfielder for some time as they look to secure deals with the best free agents available in Europe to fit into their lean pockets.
However, the LaLiga champions could face competition from the UEFA Europa League holders for the Super Eagles star, who is reportedly one of Xavi’s 2024 summer options.
Ndidi’s Leicester City contract expires at the end of June next year and it was reported several months ago that he could be an option for Barcelona to come in and play the defensive midfield role on a free next summer.
However, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reported today that Sevilla are now weighing up a move for the 26-year-old midfielder.
Sevilla have been trying to rebuild their midfield for some time, and already have Leicester’s Boubakary Soumare on loan this season.
It is believed that if Barcelona have space in their salary limit, they may consider taking a risk on Ndidi as they did with Franck Kessie – a player who in theory does not fit their style, but has sell-on value, Football Espana claimed.
The outlet added that Ndidi would have to take a significant pay cut if he were to move to Sevilla.
Ndidi is currently out injured, which has forced him to miss four Leicester City games and Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe last week, but he has already made 15 appearances across all competitions for the Foxes this season with three goals and four assists.
