D’TIGERS of Nigeria arrived in Monastir, Tunisia today, barely hours to their first game at the 2025 FIBA Men’s AfroBasket qualifiers first window.
The 2015 African champions had announced on Wednesday that they had pulled out of the qualifiers due to a lack of funds, but the sports ministry and the Nigeria Basketball Federation made desperate efforts to secure money for the trip.
After rallying round to raise the last-minute funds, D’Tigers were finally off to Tunisia and they arrived today, just in time for their opening game.
They are due to play Libya tonight from 8pm in their opening game of the competition.
D’Tigers are in Tunisia with a weakened roster after the Tokyo 2020 Olympic stars, who had made themselves available, were put off by the initial withdrawal.
The 12-man roster is made up of a blend of home-based players and some from overseas.
The squad includes Michael Okiki, Ibe Agu, Mike Nuga, Otobo Israel and Moojeed Ewuosho.
Apart from Libya, D’Tigers will also play Cape Verde and Uganda in the AfroBasket qualifiers first window in Tunisia from today until Sunday.
