JOSE Peseiro has effectively said his goodbyes to the Nigeria Football Federation and the Super Eagles as his contract expired yesterday.

The 63-year-old Portuguese was first confirmed as the head coach of Nigeria’s senior national team in May 2022 and he was handed an extension that took his tenure to the end of February this year.

Having led the Super Eagles to the final of the AFCON 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Peseiro felt he had done a decent job.

“Yesterday, we concluded our contract with the NFF. It was a pride and honour to coach the Super Eagles. It has been 22 months of immense dedication, sacrifice, emotion, and enormous enthusiasm. We feel a sense of fulfillment,” Peseiro posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, today.

“We would like to express our gratitude to Sir Amaju Pinnick (the president who signed us), President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, Secretary Dayo Enebi, the NFF, all the staff, and especially all the PLAYERS, with whom leading has been a great pleasure.

“Guys, we are thankful; it has been a privilege to be part of this family. We will miss you, but we will always be there for you, no matter where you are. A big hug to all of you.”

Under Peseiro’s reign, the Super Eagles played 22 matches, winning 11, drawing four and losing seven.

They scored 42 goals and conceded 26, with his last game in charge the 2-1 AFCON 2023 final defeat to Cote d’Ivoire in Abijdan on February 11 this year.
