UCL: Porto coach Conceicao claims Arsenal’s Arteta insulted his family

FC PORTO head coach Sergio Conceicao has accused Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta of insulting his family during last night’s UEFA Champions League clash between the two clubs.

Arsenal progressed to the UCL quarter-finals for the first time since 2010 after beating the Portuguese side 4-2 on penalties at the Emirates Stadium.

Leandro Trossard scored the only goal last night as Arsenal won 1-0 to level the tie 1-1 on aggregate.

The sides could not be seperated after extra-time and Arsenal won the penalty shootout, with their goalkeeper David Raya saving two Porto attempts.

It was a tense encounter last night and the managers were seen having a heated conversation at the end of the game.

“During the game he (Arteta) turned to the bench and in Spanish, he insulted my family,” Conceicao told reporters afterwards.

“At the end I called over to get Arteta’s attention, because the person he insulted is no longer with us.

“Let him worry about training his team, which has more than enough quality to play a lot better.”

When asked about the incident in his post-match press conference Arteta declined to comment.

Porto’s Super Eagles of Nigeria left-back Zaidu Sanusi was not involved last night or in the first leg three weeks ago due to a knee injury.
