SUPER Eagles of Nigeria forward Moses Simon has been ruled out for the rest of this season following a severe injury he sustained last night in the friendly match against Mali in Marrakech, Morocco.
The Nantes winger was stretchered off after colliding with Mali goalkeeper Mamadou Samasa in the first half as the Super Eagles were beaten 2-0.
The French Ligue 1 club today provided more details about the injury to the 28-year-old and announced that he would no longer play this season.
“Released shortly after the half-hour mark last night during the friendly match between Mali and Nigeria (2-0), Moses Simon was seriously injured with the Super Eagles,” Nantes said on their official website today.
“Hit following a collision with the Malian goalkeeper, Moses Simon was quickly evacuated on a stretcher. The Nantes striker was immediately transported to hospital for treatment.
“Subsequent examinations confirmed a fracture of the fibula. His unavailability is unfortunately estimated at several months.
“FC Nantes is already keen to provide its full support to its attacker and wishes him a speedy recovery!”
Moses was an ever-present for the Super Eagles as they reached the final of the last Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire in February and has made 22 Ligue 1 appearances for Nantes this season, registering three goals and five assists.
