SUPER Eagles of Nigeria striker Victor Boniface is almost back to full fitness and on course for a return to action for Bayer Leverkusen next week.
He had been scheduled to make his comeback today in the German Bundesliga clash with Hoffenheim but it has been pushed back by a few days.
The 23-year-old has been out with a muscle injury since the turn of the year, missing key fixtures for both club and country.
Boniface had to withdraw from the Super Eagles squad to the last Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire in January and February, as well as last week’s friendly matches against Ghana and Mali in Marrakech, Morocco.
The prolific centre forward has also been unavailable for 13 Bayer Leverkusen fixtures in all competitions due to the adductor injury.
Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso revealed last night that Boniface would not be in today’s matchday squad but is expected to be involved on Wednesday when the Bundesliga leaders face Fortuna Dusseldorf in the semi-finals of the DFB Pokal (German FA Cup).
Boniface joined Bayer Leverkusen from Union St Gilloise in July for โฌ20.5m and was in superb form before his injury, registering 16 goals and nine assists in 23 appearances across all competitions.
