SUPER Eagles striker Victor Boniface has been included among the players in the running for the Bundesliga Team of the Season.
The Nigeria international is one of 10 players nominated for the three attacking positions, with fans voting to determine the stars in the Team of the Season.
Despite missing two months due to an injury, Boniface has still posted impressive numbers for Bayer Leverkusen as they have won their first-ever German top flight title with five games to spare.
The 23-year-old has registered 11 goals and eight assists in 18 Bundesliga appearances, making him one of the deadliest attackers in the league.
“If he hadn’t been injured in preparing for the AFCON, Leverkusen’s lead striker would have made an even bigger splash this season,” Bundesliga described Boniface in their profile of the nominees.
“He remains top scorer at the champions despite missing 11 matches due to injury – and is a bona fide attacking livewire.”
Boniface will contest for the three attacking positions with Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, Borussia Dortmund’s Niclas Fullkrug, Wolfsburg’s Jonas Wind, his fellow African, Guinea striker Serhou Guirassy of Stuttgart, and five others.
According to the Bundesliga, fans, clubs and experts have until the morning of Monday, April 22 to vote for their Team of the Season.
The team will consist of a goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three attackers. The votes of the fans have a 40 percent weighting in the final results, with those from clubs and experts counting for 30 percent each. Fans can also vote for the Player of the Season at the same time.
Available for selection are five goalkeepers, 10 defenders, 15 midfielders and 10 attackers, who have made the shortlist due to their performance on official Bundesliga statistics, the league noted via its official website.
