SUPER Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi was one of the scorers tonight as Leicester City dismantled Southampton 5-0 at the King Power Stadium to cement their place at the top of the Championship table in their bid for a quick return to the English Premier League.
Ndidi struck in the 62nd minute to make it 2-0 to Leicester City, while Ghana forward Abdul Fatawu netted a hat-trick and Jamie Vardy added the other goal.
Southampton, who had Nigeria international Joe Aribo in their starting line-up, needed to win tonight to keep their automatic promotion hopes alive, but they were no match for the ruthless hosts.
Fatawu got the Foxes on their way in the 25th minute and made it 3-0 with his second goal 15 minutes from time.
The 37-year-old Vardy made it 4-0 with a breakaway goal in the 79th minute and the former England striker unselfishly set up Fatawu with a simple tap-in two minutes later to complete his hat-trick.
Ndidi has now contributed four goals and five assists in 30 appearances as Leicester City opened up a four-point gap at the top of the table with two matches to go.
His compatriot and Super Eagles teammate Kelechi Iheanacho was not in the matchday squad for the second consecutive game.
