Oparanozie wants Gusau to visit injured Super Falcons players too

DESIRE Oparanozie has called for equal treatment for both the Super Eagles and Super Falcons after Nigeria Football Federation president Ibrahim Gusau visited several injured men’s national team players in Europe.

Gusau was recently in Europe to see Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong in Greece, Moses Simon in France and Zaidu Sanusi in Portugal after all the players sustained long-term injuries.

Oparanozie, who was forced to retire from the Super Falcons last September at just 29 years old due to injury, feels the women’s national team players too deserve such treatment from the NFF boss.

“It will be more nice if this is extended to the women too,” Oparanozie wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, yesterday in response to a post praising Gusau’s concern for the Super Eagles stars.

“(Tosin) Demehin is currently injured and is in the same country with Simon. (Ashleigh) Plumptre is injured too.”

Defenders Demehin, based in France, and Saudi Arabia-based Plumptre are indeed out with injuries and both missed the Super Falcons’ Paris 2024 Olympics qualifying tie with South Africa’s Banyana Banyana earlier this month.

Plumptre, who starred at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup along with Demehin, recently underwent surgery in Doha, Qatar to correct a lingering injury.

There have been complaints over the years concerning the preferential treatment given to the Super Eagles while the Super Falcons are owed wages and bonuses.
