EMPOLI’S Senegalese striker M’Baye Niang was involved in a car accident last night in Italy, but he avoided death or any serious injuries.
Less than three months ago, on February 20, the former AC Milan striker was involved in another accident, crashing his Mercedes SUV into a few parked cars in the early hours of the morning after returning from a religious gathering.
He was taken to hospital but was mostly unharmed, returning to action and scoring four days later in a Serie A clash against Sassuolo.
Then, as reported by La Nazione via Football Italia, at around 7.30pm local time last night, Niang was in an SUV which crashed into two parked vehicles, damaging another car and a van. The incident occurred near the Shalom theatre in Empoli.
The report added that no ambulances were sent to the scene and there were no major injuries. It is still unclear if the 29-year-old Senegal international was driving the car or simply a passenger.
Niang spent the first half of this season with Adana Demirspor before returning to Serie A at the end of the January transfer window, joining Empoli in a dix-month deal worth around €250,000.
He has scored four goals in 12 Serie A appearances since the move to Empoli, who are 17th in the Italian top flight, just two points clear of the relegation spots.
Niang is not new to controversy involving cars, his troubles dating back to 2013 when he was stopped by the police in Milan for driving without a driver’s licence.
Again, in February 2014, while playing for French club Montpellier on loan, Niang crashed his Ferrari into a tree and was given a suspended 18-month jail sentence for an alleged hit-and-run accident which left 11 others injured.
In March 2016, AC Milan confirmed that Niang had suffered an injury to the capsular ligament in his left ankle, as well as bruising to his left shoulder following a car accident.
