Real Madrid edge past Bayern Munich, advance to 18th UCL final

REAL Madrid scored two late goals to secure a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabeu tonight to reach the UEFA Champions League final.

Substitute Joselu struck twice in the final few minutes of the tense encounter to take the Spanish giants to their 18th final in the competition, more than any other club.

With the first leg ending 2-2 in Munich last week, Real Madrid have advanced 3-2 on aggregate in their quest for a record-extending 15th Champions League title.

After a goalless first half of few chances, Bayern Munich took the lead midway through the second half when Alphonsus Davies received a pass from Harry Kane on the break and beat Antonio Rudiger before firing home with his weaker right foot.

At that point Bayern looked comfortable and were dangerous on the counter-attack, but coach Thomas Tuchel decided to make a rash of changes, including taking off Kane and Leroy Sane and bringing on an extra defender in Kim Min-jae.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti made attacking changes, introducing Joselu and Brahim Diaz as they chased the game.

The substitutions paid off for Real as Joselu responded quickest in the 88th minute when Manuel Nueur spilled a harmless-looking ball to make it 1-1.

The Spanish giants then clinched the winner in the first minute of stoppage time when Joselu latched on to Rudiger’s low cross.

Real Madrid will face Borussia Dortmund in the final on June 1 at Wembley in London.
