WAFU B U-17: 10-man Golden Eaglets edge past Niger Republic

NIGERIA’S Golden Eaglets secured their first win of the WAFU B U-17 Championship in Accra, Ghana last night after beating Niger Republic 1-0 at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The defending champions have joined Burkina Faso at the top of Group B table and are on course for the semi-finals.

Rapha Adams headed home in the 31st minute to give the Golden Eaglets all three points in a match in which they played the final 27 minutes with 10 men after Chibuike Okorie was shown a red card.

Victory means the five-time world champions climbed to four points, same as Burkina Faso, ahead of the closing day of Group B on Wednesday.

The Golden Eaglets will face group whipping boys Togo at the Accra Sports Stadium, while Burkina Faso battle Niger Republic at the University of Ghana Stadium.

A draw against Togo on Wednesday would guarantee the Golden Eaglets a place in the tournament’s semi-finals and edge them closer to qualifying for the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria captain Simon Cletus won the Player of the Match award, just as he did in the match against Burkina Faso on matchday 1.
