REAL Madrid defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 tonight at Wembley to win the UEFA Champions League title.

It is a record-extending 15th time the Spanish giants have won the prestigious trophy and the sixth time since 2014.

Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior struck in the second half to give Carlo Ancelotti his third UEFA Champions League title as Real Madrid manager following triumphs in 2014 and 2022.

Tonight’s victory did not come easy though, as Madrid withstood Dortmund pressure for most of the game before their goals came.

Underdogs Borussia Dortmund were clearly the better side in the first half, their defence shutting out Vinicius, Rodrygo and Jude Bellingham, and their midfield trio Emre Can, Marcel Sabitzer and Julian Brandt running the game.

Ian Maatsen, on loan at Dortmund from Chelsea, was brilliant in a hybrid left-back and midfield role, while Karim Adeyemi was a menacing outlet on the left, the Germany international with Nigerian heritage causing chaos with his pace and nearly scoring twice.

Dortmund were still dominant in the first few minutes of the second half, but it was serial champions Real Madrid who took the lead in the 74th minute, Carvajal heading home off a corner kick by Toni Kroos, who was having his last game for the club.

The German side’s attempt to fight back did not last long as Vinicius Junior netted in the 83rd minute from a Bellingham pass after a rare Maatsen error.

Dortmund thought they had a goal back when Niklas Fullkrug headed home with less than five minutes left on the clock, but the Germany striker was offside.
