MASON Greenwood has completed his move from Manchester United to Marseille, both clubs have confirmed.
The English forward last played for Manchester United in January 2022 when video and audio posted on social media suggested that he was violently abusing his girlfriend.
Greenwood was immediately suspended by Manchester United, and the police were involved, with Greenwood charged with sexual assault and other serious crimes in October 2022.
The case was however dropped in 2023 after the victim apparently refused to testify, and Greenwood was allowed to return to action, although not at Manchester United.
The club insisted in a statement that he was unlikely to ever play for them again, although he was still on their books.
He was loaned to Getafe last season and had a decent campaign in Spain with 10 goals and six assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.
Now the 22-year-old has joined Marseille on a permanent deal worth €26.6m in transfer fee and another €5m in add-ons, with Manchester United also entitled to 50 percent of any future sale.
“Mason Greenwood has left Manchester United and joined French club Olympique de Marseille on a permanent transfer,” the English club confirmed tonight.
“The 22 year-old English forward, who spent last season on loan at Getafe in Spain, made 129 appearances and scored 35 goals for United since making his debut in 2019.
“We wish Mason all the best in his future career.”
Marseille, who are managed by former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, also confirmed Greenwood’s arrival and handed him the No.10 jersey.
