CHIDO Obi-Martin, the teenager striker with Nigerian and Danish citizenship, is on the verge of quitting Arsenal to join their English Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Various reports today have claimed that the 16-year-old refused to sign a new Arsenal contract, with several clubs interested in him.

Manchester United are believed to be leading the race for the prolific striker, and there are claims that they have even agreed personal terms with Obi-Martins’ camp.

Born in Denmark to a Nigerian father, Obi-Martin has been with Arsenal for two years and is well known for scoring a staggering 10 goals in a single match last year against Liverpool youth.

Obi-Martin will be able to leave Arsenal when he clocks 17 on November 29, and
Manchester United are said to be working on a deal that could be finalised on that day.

He had a remarkable campaign for Arsenal’s youth side last season, scoring 32 goals in the U-18 Premier League and breaking the single-season record held by Folarin Balogun, another former Arsenal youngster with Nigerian heritage.

Obi-Martin went on a stunning scoring run for the Gunners’ youth outfit – trained by former academy product Jack Wilshere – in the 2023/2024 campaign, netting 10 times in a 14-3 win against Liverpool, and seven times in a 9-0 win against Norwich.

Eligible to represent Denmark, England and Nigeria at international level, Obi-Martin made five appearances in late 2022 for Denmark’s U-16 side, before switching allegiance to England and representing them twice at U-16 level in February 2023.

However, in April of the same year he returned to the Danish U-16 team, scoring twice in three appearances, and earning a call-up to the Danish U-17 side.

Obi-Martin started Denmark’s 2024 UEFA European U-17 Championship qualification campaign with two goals in his first three games, and later shone in the tournament, earning a spot in the Team of the Tournament.
