FAVOUR Ofili’s bid to win Team Nigeria’s first medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics did not go to plan tonight.

The 21-year-old, starting in a disadvantageous lane 9, finished sixth in the women’s 200m final in 22.24 seconds, just outside the bronze-winning time.

United States of America’s Gabby Thomas cruised to the gold medal in an impressive 21.83s, claiming her first Olympic title.

Julien Alfred, who made history by becoming the first medallist from Saint Lucia when she won 100m gold, finished second in 20.08s to claim silver.

USA’s Brittany Brown bagged bronze in 22.20s, with Great Britain pair Dina Asher-Smith (22.22s and Daryll Neita (22.23s) finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

Ofili, who was not registered for the women’s 100m despite qualifying due to an error, will be in Nigeria’s 4x100m relay quartet.
