OPERATIVES from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Kaduna State Police Command have apprehended two suspected notorious gun runners known for manufacturing locally made firearms.
The suspects, identified as Abdulaziz Habibu and Nuhu Thomas, residents of Dogon Dawa in the Birmin Gwari Local Government Area, were taken into custody while in possession of a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle at Madaci Village in Zaria.
According to a statement from ASP Mansir Hassan, the public relations officer of the Kaduna State Police Command, the suspects admitted to engaging in the illegal arms trade and supplying weapons to notorious bandits operating in the Zaria region.
He added that their confessions have provided vital leads, as they are currently assisting the police with ongoing investigations to identify and arrest their accomplices.
In a separate operation, police operatives at the Tafa Division apprehended a 35-year-old man acting as an informant for bandits in the Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The suspect, Abubakar Yahuza from Gidan Abeh Village, reportedly confessed to running errands and providing information for kidnappers who hide in the Gidan Dogo Forest.
Additionally, police operatives rescued two farmers who were kidnapped by bandits in Kuriga Village, Chikun Local Government Area, during a gunfight yesterday, August 18th.
According to the statement, “Officers from the Police Mobile Force (PMF) based in Kuriga quickly responded to gunfire near the village. Upon arrival, they confronted two armed men on motorcycles trying to abduct the farmers. A brief gunfight ensued, causing the bandits to flee and abandon their captives.
“The rescued victims suffered head injuries inflicted by the attackers and were treated at the Kuriga Primary Health Care Centre. They have since been discharged.”
