The month of October is particularly symbolic as it is supposed to be the month of Nigeria’s independence from colonial rule. How independent were we, have we been and are we? We know that the times are changing and challenging but together we can make things happen for posterity

IT is Nigera’s Independent month, and in its traditional role as chroniclers of national stories and history, Crown Troupe of Africa, revered as perhaps the nation’s most engaged or engaging theatre outfit, will be on stage to reflect on the fate and fortune of the country in its past 64 years.

The troupe of eclectic performers will on October 12 and 13 present TORI NAIJA, another of its agitprop theatre form at the KAPHub Art Centre at 41 Ogundana Street, off Allen Avenue,  Ikeja, Lagos.

Described as a Medley of Music, Dance, Drama and Poetry, TORI NAIJA’s presentation, slated for 3 pm and 6 pm each day,  is yet another shot of the KAP Live Theatre Series, a collaboration between eclectic Crown Troupe of Africa led by the multi-talented/skilled artist, Segun Adefila and, KAP Hub, the one-stop art space founded by the storyteller-filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan.

“The month of October is particularly symbolic as it is supposed to be the month of Nigeria’s independence from colonial rule. How independent were we, have we been and are we? We know that the times are changing and challenging but together we can make things happen for posterity,” stated Adefila, in his usual satirical way.

“Decolonisation is a process, a necessary process if you ask me. Except of course colonisation has a different meaning apart from ‘control’, decolonisation is a necessity in the quest to quell the existentialist threat.
To teach is not to control. So, as we say in Fela’s voice, TDTMN, we invite you to see our strides and intentionality in decolonising our theatre practice.”

Attendees at the theatrical presentation could also refresh with a 3-course meal at the Afeyeye Restaurant, obviously the most patronised wing of the multiple venues/facilities KAP Hub.

Tickets to the show can be obtained at the gate or, via  https://forms.gle/BNnipAaNqo6cmUhd9.
