THE Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, has urged Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo to resign following his decision not to defect with Governor Abba Yusuf to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking with journalists in Kano today, Waiya argued that effective governance depends on loyalty, trust and shared political alignment, adding that the deputy governor’s continued involvement in executive affairs raises concerns about confidentiality and mutual confidence.

According to the commissioner, while Gwarzo’s decision not to join the governor in defecting is a personal one, it is inappropriate for someone who no longer aligns politically with the administration to participate in routine executive council meetings.

He questioned the level of trust that could be maintained under such circumstances, warning of the potential risk to sensitive government matters.

Waiya stated that, in his view, resignation would be the most honourable option available to the deputy governor, noting that he would take the same step if placed in a similar position.

The comments come amid ongoing political realignments in Kano State, following Governor Yusuf’s recent defection from the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC.

Waiya described the governor’s move as being in the best interest of the state, citing expectations of increased federal support, development projects and strategic interventions.

He also assured residents that the state government remains committed to resolving the lingering emirate dispute through dialogue, adherence to the rule of law, and peaceful engagement, stressing that political differences would not be allowed to disrupt governance or stability in Kano State.
