TALKS between Fenerbahce and Atalanta for Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman have ended and the proposed move is unlikely to go through, according to reports in Italy.
Reports in recent days have claimed that Fenerbahce have been pushing to sign Lookman from Atalanta before the close of the January transfer window.
There was a reported meeting between representatives from Fenerbahce and Atalanta yesterday, with the Turkish club believed to be prepared to invest around €40m on the signing of the 28-year-old.
However, according to European transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio late last night, negotiations between Fenerbahce and Atalanta for Lookman have now come to a ‘definitive’ halt.
There is no agreement in place on payment between the two clubs, nor on the bank guarantees that would be needed for the transfer to go ahead.
Atletico Madrid had also expressed an interest in signing Lookman this month, but it remains to be seen whether Diego Simeone’s side will come back in with a formal offer before the close of the January window on Monday.
If Lookman were to stay in Bergamo, Atalanta would be more likely to sanction the exit of Kamaldeen Sulemana, who has been linked with moves to both Roma and Napoli this month.
Lookman was ready to join Inter Milan last summer but Atalanta refused to let him go, insisting that they would only sell the Nigeria international to a club outside Italy.
