ATALANTA and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement for Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman, according to multiple reports.
Lookman was initially believed to be keen on a move to Fenerbahce, but negotiations between the Turkish club and Atalanta broke down on Friday night.
Reports had claimed that Lookman was reluctant to consent to the Atletico Madrid move, but the Nigeria international has now reportedly given his nod and the transfer to the Spanish club is now on course.
Both European transfer experts Gianluca Di Marzio and Fabrizio Romano reported late last night that Lookman was considering Atletico Madrid’s proposal.
Today, it is claimed that all the details of the deal have been worked out, and the 28-year-old Lookman will be heading to Spain to complete the switch.
Lookman will sign a long-term deal with Atletico Madrid, who will pay Atalanta €35m in fixed fee and €5m in add-ons.
The Super Eagles wide man will be playing in his fourth top European league after featuring in England, where he was born, for Everton, Leicester City and Fulham, Germany for RB Leipzig and Italy got Atalanta.
Lookman has registered 55 goals (including a historic hat-trick in the 2023-2024 UEFA Europa League final) and 27 assists in 137 appearances in all competitions for Atalanta, who he joined from RB Leipzig for €11m in August 2022.
