SUPER Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has left Chippa United after the player and the club agreed to part ways.
The South African top flight club confirmed Nwabali’s exit today, with the Nigeria international having spent four years with the side.
Nwabali, 29, has long been linked with a move away from Chippa United after establisging himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for the Super Eagles and one of the leading stoppers in Africa.
He was linked with moves to England and Saudi Arabia, as well as Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa, but remained with the modest Chippa United over the past couple of seasons, featuring 76 times and keeping 25 clean sheets with the club.
Chippa United announced the decision today after Nwabali formally submitted a request to leave, which was granted by the Chilli Boyz with a mutual termination.
“Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart club. After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release,” the club statement read.
“We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club.
“His contribution to the club will always be appreciated. The club wishes Stanley every success in the next chapter of his career and in all his future endeavours.”
It is not clear where Nwabali will go next, but he is able to move on his own terms as he is a free agent.
