SECURITY has been significantly tightened around Eagle Square as the All Progressives Congress (APC) gears up for its 2026 national convention.

The venue is already bustling with activity ahead of the event scheduled for March 27, with the arena decorated in the party’s colours—red, green, white, and blue. Flags have been raised, and designated polling areas for each state have been set up.

Security agencies, including the police, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), have been deployed across the area. Major roads leading to the venue have been barricaded, resulting in traffic diversions and forcing many residents in the Federal Capital Territory to trek to their destinations.

More than 8,000 delegates from all 36 states and the FCT are expected to attend the convention. The gathering will be led by Bola Tinubu, alongside 31 state governors and members of the federal cabinet.

Officials say the party plans to adopt a consensus approach during the convention, emphasizing unity and internal cohesion.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has outlined preparations and expectations, urging members of the media and publicity committee to work collaboratively to ensure effective communication and a successful event.

The convention is expected to serve as a key milestone in strengthening the party’s internal structure and democratic processes.
