THE Lagos State Government has unveiled the Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, marking a significant step in its ongoing efforts to improve public education infrastructure.

Situated on about 11.7 hectares, the revitalised complex comprises 36 public schools—31 secondary and five primary located within the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The project, originally established in 1981 under the administration of Lateef Jakande, has now been transformed into a modern educational hub.

Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the development as more than a simple upgrade, calling it a bold reimagining of public education in a rapidly evolving city.

He emphasised that the initiative reflects a broader promise to ensure every child, regardless of background, has access to high-quality learning in a conducive environment.

The event was attended by key dignitaries, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who represented President Bola Tinubu.

Akpabio commended the state government’s vision, stressing that education remains central to human capital development and economic growth.

Designed with modern needs in mind, the facility features advanced learning infrastructure such as ICT and robotics centres, science laboratories, and a multi-storey vocational skills hub.

New classroom blocks have also been constructed, alongside the renovation of existing ones, to ease overcrowding and create a more effective learning environment.

The Minister of Education Tunji Alausa also commended the project, describing it as a strong example of collaboration between state and federal authorities.

He noted that the upgraded complex aligns with the federal government’s agenda to equip students with practical skills needed to succeed in today’s economy.

Originally built on reclaimed land from the Lagos Lagoon, the Tolu Schools Complex has long stood as a symbol of educational access in Ajegunle.

Its latest transformation, which began in early 2024, reinforces Lagos State’s commitment to delivering inclusive and future-ready education.
