THE Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has thrown his support behind his deputy, Kadri Hamzat, as the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement was announced at Lagos House in Marina during a gathering that included members of the state executive council, APC leaders, and all 57 local government and local council development area chairmen.

Sanwo-Olu described Hamzat as well-prepared for leadership, citing his extensive experience and deep understanding of governance.

According to the governor, consultations among party stakeholders strongly favored Hamzat, whom he portrayed as capable and ready to take on the responsibility of leading the state.

Ahead of the 2027 race, Hamzat has been engaging key figures within the party.

As part of these consultations, he recently met with Femi Gbajabiamila, alongside prominent APC stakeholders, to seek broader support for his potential candidacy.

During the meeting, party leaders emphasized Hamzat’s strong political grounding in Lagos and the importance of unity within the party to secure victory in the upcoming election.

In his remarks, Hamzat expressed confidence in the party’s structure and its chances in future elections, stressing the need to sustain governance continuity in Lagos State.

He also highlighted the importance of maintaining economic stability and ensuring the party selects the right candidate to build on existing progress.

Reaffirming his commitment, the deputy governor noted that strengthening Lagos and delivering improved outcomes for residents remains a shared responsibility, as he continues consultations ahead of the election.
