THE Super Falcons of Nigeria have been drawn to play Sudan or Comoros in the early rounds of the qualifying campaign for the women’s football tournament of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

FIFA confirmed the African route to the Olympics last night, with the 10-time continental champions starting their journey from the second of five qualifying rounds.

Sudan and Comoros will face each other in the first round, and the winners will battle the Super Falcons in the second round.

The five rounds of home-and-away ties will involve 35 African teams, with two securing tickets to the Games, which will have 16 teams from across the world.

According to the format, the six lowest-ranked teams will compete in the opening round this June, from where the winners will advance to face top-ranked sides such as Nigeria, South Africa, Morocco and Ghana in the second round.

The second round is billed for October 5 to October 13, while the third round will be held between February 23 and March 6, 2027.

The fourth round of the qualifying series will be played between October 4 and October 12, 2027 and the final round from November 23 to December 4, 2027.

The Super Falcons are aiming to reach back-to-back Olympics after failing to qualify for the 2012, 2016 and 2020 events.

Africa’s most successful women’s national team represented the continent at the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Olympics.
