THE Senator representing Yobe East, Mustapha Musa, has stepped down from the 2027 political race, endorsing Governor Mai Mala Buni as his preferred successor to the Senate.

In a statement announcing his withdrawal, the lawmaker said his decision aligns with the position of party leaders and the broader political arrangement ahead of the general elections.

He also made it clear that he would not pursue any other elective position and instructed his supporters to halt all campaign activities on his behalf.

The senator further congratulated former Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, who has emerged as the preferred governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, wishing him and other party candidates success in the upcoming polls.

Reflecting on his political journey, Mustapha expressed appreciation to Governor Buni and Ibrahim Geidam for their guidance and support, which he said played a key role in his rise through public service from his early role at the Yobe State Scholarship Board to becoming commissioner and eventually a senator.

The development also highlights close political and familial ties among key figures in Yobe politics, as both Buni and the senator share in-law relationships with Geidam.

Observers say the move signals a coordinated effort within the APC to strengthen unity and streamline its strategy ahead of the 2027 elections.
