GHANA international Antoine Semenyo produced a moment of magic to settle a tight FA Cup final as Manchester City defeated Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley today.
The showpiece had largely been a disappointing contest until Semenyo broke the deadlock brilliantly with 16 minutes left on the clock.
Erling Haaland provided the low cross that Semenyo met on the run with a perfect right-foot flick across Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
It was out of context with what had gone before, but was enough to secure City victory as they added the FA Cup to the Carabao Cup won against Arsenal, also ending a run of successive final defeats against Manchester United and Crystal Palace.
For Chelsea, it meant the disappointment of a record fourth successive FA Cup final defeat to end their chances of silverware this season.
Manchester City have now won the domestic Cup double twice in England, after achieving the feat in the 2018/2019 season.
Pep Guardiola’s side have a slim chance of repeating the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup treble they won seven years ago if they can upstage league leaders Arsenal in the title race.
