NO fewer than six people, including four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), have died in a tragic road accident along the Narehi axis of Girei–Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Adamawa State Police Command, Suleiman Nguroje, the crash involved a military gun truck travelling from Gombi to Yola and a commercial Hummer bus conveying five passengers from Yola to Mubi.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both vehicles collided head-on, causing the commercial bus to overturn and burst into flames. All five occupants of the bus were reportedly trapped and burnt to death.
The police disclosed that four of the victims were serving NYSC members deployed to Adamawa State.
Two of the deceased have been identified as Suleuman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both natives of Kaduna State, while efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining victims.
Authorities also confirmed that a military personnel travelling in the gun truck lost his life in the accident.
The bodies of the deceased have been evacuated to the Specialist Hospital in Yola, while security agencies continue efforts to identify the remaining victims and notify their families.
Reacting to the incident, the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police extended condolences to the bereaved families, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the NYSC, and all those affected by the tragedy.
