Popularly known as Ashmusy, Amarachi Amusi has become one of Nigeria’s most influential digital personalities.
Through her hilarious skits, engaging social media content, entrepreneurial ventures, and growing presence in Nollywood, she has built a brand that resonates with millions of followers across different platforms.
But behind the laughter, viral moments, and glamorous lifestyle is a young woman constantly navigating public scrutiny, family responsibilities, and the realities of life in the spotlight.
Speaking to Naija Times about her journey, Ashmusy addressed one of the biggest misconceptions about her: the belief that she is dishonest.
According to the content creator, much of the criticism stems from people taking her playful online personality too seriously.
“A lot of people say, ‘Oh, she lies,’ and I think that’s because they sometimes take my exaggerations, jokes, and playful personality too seriously,” she explained.
Known for her entertaining storytelling style, Ashmusy said she often posts content intended purely for fun, only for some viewers to interpret it differently.
“I might post AI content and make it obvious that it’s just for fun, but people twist it into something else. I’m naturally playful, and I like telling stories. Sometimes storytellers exaggerate or spice things up.”
Reflecting on her rise to fame, she admitted that one of her early challenges was allowing the line between her personal character and public brand to become blurred.
“I do admit I blurred the line between my personality and my brand. There should be boundaries because not everything friends understand translates the same way online. I wasn’t handed a manual. I was being myself and figuring things out. But I’ve learned a lot, and I’m still learning.”
Away from social media, Ashmusy carries another important title — that of a first daughter. She revealed that the role has played a major part in shaping her determination and work ethic.
“Yes, I am the first daughter, and I’ve said that many times. It’s not easy at all, but I’m grateful to God for giving me that position,” she said.
For her, the responsibility that comes with being the eldest child has become a driving force rather than a burden.
“It comes with a lot of responsibility, and I think that’s one of the reasons I’m such a hardworking person. It has shaped me into a strong hustler who always wants to keep pushing.”
Like many public figures, Ashmusy has also had to develop a thick skin in the face of criticism and online trolling. While she admits that negative comments can sometimes be emotionally draining, she has learned to distinguish between baseless attacks and criticism that may contain valuable lessons.
“It gets really tiring and tough sometimes,” she admitted.
“The lies and false accusations, I can ignore because they hold no value. But the ones that may carry some truth, even if twisted or based on misconceptions, or the ones that hurt emotionally, those can affect me.”
