Veteran Nigerian media personality IK Osakioduwa explained why he did not return as host for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, ending his long-running hosting streak that began when the awards launched in 2013.
On The Morayo Show, he clarified that his absence was not due to any disagreement with Africa Magic, emphasising that it was a matter of timing and personal conviction.
He also reaffirmed that his relationship with the platform remains strong and positive.
According to IK, his decision was guided by personal principles, especially regarding brand endorsements. He explained that he avoids associating with alcohol and tobacco brands, which were part of the sponsorship line-up for the 12th edition, making it difficult for him to participate in the event as required.
In his words, he believes he is meant to be where he is “at the right time,” adding that while he respects the show deeply, he could not compromise his values for this edition.
Replacing him as hosts for the ceremony were Bovi Ugboma and Nomzamo Mbatha, who brought a fresh dynamic to the stage. Over the years, IK has co-hosted the AMVCA with several prominent figures, including Minnie Dlamini, Bonang Matheba, Zozibini Tunzi, Amina Abdi Rabar, Vimbai Mutinhiri, and David Oke, earning a reputation as one of the show’s most consistent and charismatic hosts.
