THE Ebonyi State Police Command has arraigned three suspects in connection with the recent mob attack on a woman at the International Market in Abakaliki, the state capital.
The suspects, identified as Nwokedi Charles, Ekwunife Chidubem, and Okpala Chiamaka, according to a statement issued yesterday by the Command’s spokesperson, Joshua Ukandu were charged following investigations into the incident.
Ukandu said the Commissioner of Police, Hope Okafor, condemned the incident and immediately ordered a thorough, diligent, and impartial investigation into the matter.
The police disclosed that 13 suspects were initially arrested after the woman was attacked by a mob over allegations that she had abducted three children.
Following the preliminary investigation, the three individuals identified as the principal suspects were arraigned in court for their alleged roles in the attack.
The command reiterated its opposition to jungle justice and all forms of self-help, urging members of the public to report suspected criminal activities to law enforcement agencies instead of taking the law into their own hands.
It also warned that anyone found participating in mob justice would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
