TWO people have lost their lives in a road accident that occurred at Leme along the Abeokuta–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
The Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said the crash was caused by excessive speeding, once again highlighting the dangers of violating speed limits on Nigerian roads.
According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Odunsin, the accident happened at about 5:45 p.m. and involved a black Lexus vehicle with registration number KJA 398 JR and a black TVS motorcycle bearing registration number AYT 837 QU.
Odunsin disclosed that FRSC rescue personnel received a distress call five minutes after the incident and arrived at the scene within another five minutes to begin rescue operations.
A total of six adult males were involved in the crash. While two of them died, the remaining individuals escaped without injuries.
The FRSC said its rescue team evacuated the victims and deposited the bodies of the deceased at the State Hospital, Ijaye Mortuary, Abeokuta.
Officials also recovered personal items belonging to the victims, including an identity card and a mobile phone, before clearing the road to restore normal traffic flow.
Reacting to the incident, Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Oludare Ogunjobi, sympathised with the families of the deceased and urged road users to obey traffic regulations, particularly speed limits.
He warned that speeding reduces drivers’ reaction time and significantly increases the likelihood and severity of road crashes. He also advised motorists and motorcyclists to remain vigilant and avoid reckless driving.
The FRSC reiterated its commitment to improving road safety through continuous enforcement of traffic laws, public awareness campaigns, and prompt emergency response services.
